For the past few weeks, we've been working on our "Video Games as Art" project with Mr. Curly. We discussed things like the differences between "art games" and "game art", the role that empathy can play in games, and different ways game actions can be used to give across a message. We then drafted proposals for our own art games, and for the past few classes have been building them using game maker.
This project has been incredibly awesome. I've loved exploring video games as a media for art. I've especially loved coming up with the concept for a game and creating the sprites. All I have left is to fix my lives display, set up the last levels, and hopefully add a soundtrack. I can't wait to see how my project and everyone elses projects turn out. In the past couple of weeks, we have begun a project based off of the works of Ryan McGinness, in which we take a piece of art and architecture from an assigned country or region, and then make simplfied, logo like images of them, which we will later compile together. So far I have really enjoyed this project, mainly because I really love the work of Ryan McGinness, and I have liked using Illustator and the pen tool (and getting to explore CS6 on the new laptops) . Most of all, I think it's going to be incredibly cool when we bring everyone's different icons together at the end.
Today we also got to look at the work of artist Miao Xiaochun. I absolutely loved his work, from his manipulated photographs to his projected animated pieces (the cube was especially cool). I think what he's doing is really interesting and his work really engaging, and I'd definatley like to see more of it. Link to GIF
http://www.gfycat.com/DistantFixedHagfish Questions 1 & 2: Hirshorn Questions 1 & 2: Though it doesn't clearly state on the front page of it's website that it is a contemporary art mueseum, it's clean, modern design makes this obvious. It's very geometric with large, san serif fonts, and pretty consistantly designed thruoght. It's very aesthtical pleasing and cool in my opinion. I wish that I could know a little bit more about the museum on the front page, but the front page seems mainly dedicated to advetising the exhibits. Finding your way around isn't too bad, you can either scroll from side to side, or use the bar at the top to find what you're looking for. each page is very busy though, and can be kind of overwhleming at first. American Art Museum: The clearest indicator that this mueseum is a mueseum of american art is the name itself. It looks like a pretty standard old website, nothing particularly intersting or invational about it. it's pretty easy to navigate through the website, with clear catagories at the top that show you where you can go.There seem to be about two or three different fonts used within the website. The text is not too small and is legible for the most part. The images on the front of the website do not appear to be cropped, but not having seen the actual paintings myself I can't be sure. National Gallery of Art First thing: the text on the website is pretty small. I don't have trouble, but I can imagine it would be difficult for someone with poor eyesight. It looks as if the main font being used is times new roman or something similar. It seems pretty easy to navigate, with catagories up at the top. The art in the mueseum is really showcased throughout the website. -- I really liked how the Hirshorn mueseum's website looked, and tit made the designs of the other websites feel very stuffy and old in comparison. Admitadley though, I had an easier time finding my way around the other two mueseums websites. Question 3 Morris Tree of Life Small Tapestry In order to have created this, a desginer most likey would have had to photograph or scan the orginal tapestry, and then sketch out the deign onto a grid so that it could be woven and dyed like the original tapestry. I choose this object becuase it was a direct replica of piece found in one of the mueseums. Great Wave Travel Mug: In order to have created this, primarely they would need a design for a functioning travel. The desginer would have to find or get a high quality image of the original piece of artwork, and then decide how to crop and rezize it to get it to fit on the mug. I chose this item becuase it featured a piece from the collection, but was it's own item as well, not just a reprint or replica. |
